Two pundits argue over whether Spurs are favourites against Ajax

Tottenham Hotspur are just one day away from the biggest game in their recent club history as they face Ajax in the Champions League semi-final first leg tomorrow night.

The match is set to kick-off at 20:00 at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with both clubs looking to progress to a surprise European final.

Ajax already knocked out Champions League holders Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus on their way to the semi-final this year, while Spurs overcame a group of death, Borussia Dortmund, and Man City.

Many would list both teams as surprise packages at this stage of the competition, however, Ajax certainly have more going in their favour heading into the first match.

Tottenham are without six first team players for the match, and have had four days less rest and preparation too.

Martin Keown believes that Ajax are favourites to see off Spurs and make it to the final, while Paul Ince argued the opposite (Football Focus 27/04/2019 12:30pm).

Keown said: “If you see what they have done to Real Madrid and Juventus, they are now I think the favourites going into this and they could be surprise package to go on and win it.”

Ince was confused by this statement: “Favourites? I am not sure they are going to be the favourites to beat Tottenham.”

Keown replied: “Why not? They beat Real Madrid and Juventus?”

Ince argued: “Even without Son and Kane, I think Tottenham might have too much for them, experience wise. I think they win it. Unless you want to bet?”

“Let’s see what happens,” Keown finished.
