Revelo reporter Matteo Moretto has revealed that Tottenham increased their offer for Lucas Bergvall on deadline day and also made him a crucial promise, thus stealing him from under Barcelona’s noses in the dying stages of the window.
While the last couple of weeks of the transfer market were uneventful from a Spurs point of view, the Lilywhites did end the window with a bang, securing the services of one of Sweden’s best young talents, Bergvall.
It was widely reported on Thursday night that Tottenham have beaten Barca to the 17-year-old’s signing, with the teenager now expected to sign a five-year deal at the North London side (David Ornstein).
According to Fabrizio Romano, Dejan Kukusevski played an important role in convincing the youngster to pick Spurs, with the winger alleged to have spoken to his compatriot about life under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs offered more than Barcelona for Bergvall
Moretto has now offered a detailed explanation of how Tottenham were able to swoop for Bergvall in the final hours of the window.
The journalist revealed that right until Thursday morning, Barca were quite confident that the midfielder would arrive at Camp Nou.
However, over the course of the day, the player’s camp allegedly stopped speaking to the Catalan club as ‘Tottenham’s shadow become real’.
Moretto reveals that Spurs were not only willing to ‘offer more’ than Barca but also promised the youngster that he would go straight into the first-team squad, thus clinching the signing.

One thing that might have inadvertently worked in Tottenham’s favour was Xavi’s decision to resign from Barca at the end of the season. The La Liga giants would have thus not been in a position to make any guarantees regarding a first-team role for Bergvall while Postecoglou would have been able to do so.
