‘Typical Tottenham’- Alan Shearer rips into Conte’s side with ‘flaky’ assessment

Alan Shearer has claimed it was a typically ‘flaky’ performance from Tottenham against Middlesbrough after Antonio Conte’s men were dumped out of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

With a top-four finish looking like an uphill task for Spurs this season, it seemed like a FA Cup run was the club’s best hope of keeping their campaign alive.

As expected, Conte named a strong lineup for the clash at the Riverside Stadium but none of his star players turned up on the night as the home side restricted them to a few chances through the 120 minutes of football.

Boro eventually got their winner through Josh Coburn in the second half of extra time to seal their progression into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Sherar insisted that the Championship club deserved to progress at Tottenham’s expense on the back of their performance, and admitted he was not impressed with the Lilywhites’ showing.

The Newcastle legend told BBC Sport (01/03/22 at 22:28): “This was no fluke, Boro were the better team from start to finish. Chris Wilder can be so proud of his team. The crowd were up for it, the players were up for it. Spurs were so flaky, typical Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was immediately apparent after the first 10 to 15 minutes of the game that it was going to be a tough night for us as we starlet sloppily while Boro were right up for it.

We should have taken more risks to press Boro higher up the pitch rather than just sticking with our game plan and hoping that our quality would get us through.
