According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s pursuit of rumoured Tottenham target Jean Clair-Todibo is now over.

Spurs and Man United were both linked with Todibo

Tottenham had been heavily linked with a move for Todibo in January before they swooped for Radu Dragusin from Genoa and it was suggested by GFFN last month that the Lilywhites could try again for the centre-back this window.

It was explained that while Nice demanded €60m (£51.1m) for the Frenchman back in January, they were now ready to sell the player for around €40m (£34m).

The publication added that Tottenham are expected to face competition from Man Utd, who are also quite keen on the 24-year-old.

Todibo himself admitted earlier this month in an interview with The Telegraph that he is keen on testing himself in the Premier League and he even confessed that he has had conversations with both Spurs and Man Utd.

UEFA block Man United move for Todibo

However, Romano has now taken to social media to state that the Nice star’s proposed move to Old Trafford is now off.

He explained that while talks between United and the Ligue 1 club regarding Todibo were ‘advanced’ and had been taking place for many months, the rules do not allow the two teams to do any business.

This is because both Man Utd and Nice now have the same ownership group and with both sides set to compete in next season’s Europa League, they will not be allowed to buy or sell players to each other.

This potentially opens the door for Tottenham to swoop for Todibo as we know that the centre-back has been of interest to the Lilywhites in the past. However, it remains to be seen if Spurs would want to spend £35m-£40m on a centre-back this summer.
