Tottenham Hotspur’s iconic Champions League win over Ajax last night seems to have touched football fans from all walks of life.
UK mainstream politics and football don’t often go hand in hand, and you wouldn’t inspect the leader of the Labour Party to go out of his way to congratulate Spurs for their win, but that’s exactly what Jeremy Corbyn did last night.
This becomes all the more surprising when you realise that Corbyn is actually an Arsenal supporter, but it didn’t stop him from applauding the underdog performance shown by Spurs.
Tottenham came from 3-0 down on aggregate at half time against Ajax to score three second-half goals of their own, courtesy of an incredible Lucas Moura hattrick.
His 96th-minute winner on the night ensured that Spurs qualified for their first ever Champions League final, and guaranteed that Moura will go down in the history of this famous football club.
Even an Arsenal fan can appreciate the astonishing performances by @LFC and @SpursOfficial over the last two nights. Two underdogs defying the odds to set up an all English Champions League Final. Congratulations and good luck to both teams in the final. #AJATOT
