‘Unacceptable’ – On-loan Tottenham man criticised for performance on Saturday

Joe Rodon has come under criticism for his display in Rennes defeat at home against Lille on Saturday.

Djed Spence made his debut for Rennes in the clash at right wing-back on Saturday and the Tottenham man showed exactly why he was thought of by many as the most exciting player in the Championship last season.

The 22-year-old looked extremely dangerous when he got on the ball in the final third, skipping past his man on several occasions and delivering balls into the box, with some Spurs fans left scratching their head as to why he was not handed opportunities by Antonio Conte.

While Spence had a memorable outing, one man who seemingly had an evening to forget was Rodon, with the Tottenham man coming under criticism for his display in the heart of the backline.

French publication Dicodu Sport suggested that the Welshman was to blame for two of Lille’s three goals on Saturday.

They gave the 25-year-old a rating of 4/10 and wrote about his display: “He suffered this evening against the Lille waves, in the duels with a 2/5 which is unacceptable for a player in this position. He is not free from reproach, especially on the last two Lille goals.”

To put things into context, the publication has given a 4/10 rating for several players in Rennes’ starting eleven, not just Rodon. So, it seems like it was an evening to forget for Bruno Genesio’s men, with the Welshman far from being the only player who had an off day.
