Some Real Madrid fans on social media are absolutely fuming that the Spanish giants decided to sell Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham.
Tottenham signed Reguilon for a fee of around £27m from Real Madrid last month after he impressed on loan at Sevilla last season.
However, Real Madrid have inserted a buy-back clause in his contract that would allow them to re-sign the defender for around £35million until the summer of 2022 (Evening Standard).
The Spanish international has hit the ground running in North London and shown already that he can be a constant threat going forward down the left-hand side, while also having the energy and pace to get back and defend.
Real Madrid have experienced a frustrating week after they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League opener on Wednesday which came on the back of a loss at the hands of Cadiz in La Liga last weekend.
Experienced left-back Marcelo has not performed will in either match which has left some of the Los Blancos faithful believe that the Brazilian is on the decline.
On the back of the 32-year-old’s recent displays, some fans cannot believe that Zinedine Zidane decided to let Reguilon head out of the exit door.
The saddest part is we had the perfect replacement in Reguilon. He’s such a Maradista that I know if zizou had told him you’ll get a fair shot to compete with Mendy he would’ve stayed. Instead we have a Marcelo problem… for the 3rd year in a row. Self-inflicted wound by zizou

We kept Marcelo over Reguilon pic.twitter.com/sNsFVISKSl

This is unacceptable man, it can’t be a coincidence that Marcelo’s been a starter in our last 9 losses?
We need that Reguilón buyback ASAP.

Should've really kept Reguilon and let Marcelo go instead. Very wrong sporting decision here.

Zidane and perez are the reason why we are like that they kept dead players and refused to buy players and sold the likes of hakimi reguilon

When we are criticizing Zidane is not because we hate him, but his style and tactics is purely based on sentiment. As a manager you have to base your selection on performance not loyalty. We lost James and Reguilon, to keep Vasquez and Marcelo. Okay!

Can’t believe how we let Hakimi and Reguilon go though…

And people say Real Madrid don’t treat their legends well. Any other top club would’ve kicked Marcelo out the day Reguilón made his debut https://t.co/X7RbkiXh4B

That's why I keep saying since 2018 marcelo should be solded, and reguilon should be here instead, zidane f up big here

How can you sell Reguilon but keep a 32 year old Marcelo. How can you keep Odriozola but sell Hakimi. How can you go into a season with 1 defensive midfielder. How can you go into a season without an attacking winger. How @realmadriden ?

Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs fans should be hoping that Zidane turns Real Madrid’s form around and picks up a few decent results. The Frenchman does not seem to rate Reguilon and it looks unlikely that they would activate the 23-year-old’s buy-back clause if he is still at the club.
However, if Zidane is to depart, I worry that whoever replaces him might decide that Reguilon is the way forward. However, with big expectations on Ferland Mendy’s shoulders, it will be hard for Madrid to guarantee Reguilon a starting birth, even if Marcelo leaves.
