‘Unbelievable’ – Arsenal legend surprised no one rivalled Spurs for summer signing

Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright was surprised by how easy it was for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton this summer.

Tottenham finalised a transfer for a sum in the region of £25million, which will rise with bonuses (BBC). Bissouma penned a four-year deal with Spurs, with his previous contract at the Amex running into its final year (The Athletic).

The Seagulls are well known for their stubbornness, having priced Manchester City out of their attempt to sign Marc Cucurella. Chelsea, meanwhile, had to pay an initial £56m with a possible £7m in add-ons for the left-back, while also loaning out Levi Colwill (ESPN).

Bissouma now joins a packed and competitive Tottenham midfield, alongside the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Oliver Skipp.

Wright has expressed his surprise at how Antonio Conte’s side was able to sign a player like Bissouma without facing hefty competition for his signature.

He said on his Wrighty’s House podcast: “When you see Bissouma moving on. I was surprised that he didn’t have more people in for him, to be honest, for Bissouma, for whatever reason. I think Tottenham have made an unbelievable signing there.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is definitely a surprise that Tottenham were able to get such a quality midfield option, not only at a good price, but relatively unopposed too. It becomes even more baffling once you consider how much Bissouma would improve the midfield of every Premier League big six club, apart from perhaps Man City.
