‘Unbelievable’ – Romero and Van de Ven not happy with Pedro Porro snub

Son Heung-min, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and others expressed their astonishment at the fact that Pedro Porro has not made it to the Spain squad for the European Championship.

Porro has arguably been Tottenham’s most consistent performer across the 2023-24 season and has undoubtedly been one of the best right-backs on show across the Premier League.

Many would have expected the 24-year-old to be a nailed-on starter for Spain at the Euros, but quite bewilderingly, Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has decided not to name the Tottenham man in his 29-man preliminary squad for the tournament.

It would be one thing if La Roja had many world-class right-backs to choose from like England do, but what is even more surprising is that De La Fuente has decided to name 38-year-old Jesus Navas and 32-year-old Dani Carvajal ahead of the Spurs man.

Porro reacted with grace to being left out, stating on social media that while he was looking forward to playing in the Euros, he will now be cheering on his colleagues who have been selected ahead of him.

However, the right-back’s Tottenham teammates are not impressed with Spain’s selection, with Son responding to Porro’s Instagram post with: ‘You are the best’ and a tear emoji while Van de Ven responded with a hand on-head emoji.

Romero was particularly disappointed, commenting: ‘Let’s go, brother. Unbelievable”, along with a heart and a face-palm emoji.

This is evidence of just how highly rated Porro is among his Tottenham teammates, who all think that he is one of the best in the world in his position.

It is extremely hard to get one’s mind around the fact that he has been left out in favour of two ageing right-backs who have not had the best of seasons.
