Some Spurs fans on social media were all praise for Harry Winks after the 24-year-old put in a solid performance at the heart of Mourinho’s midfield to help his side overcome Leeds United 3-0 on Saturday.
Winks has not featured much in the Premier League over the past few months, with Jose Mourinho preferring a double pivot of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko to protect the back four.
While the system worked well to an extent, helping Spurs become a much more defensively sturdy outfit, the Lilywhites did have problems creating chances over recent weeks.
Jose Mourinho has dismissed the idea of Winks leaving Tottenham this month and the Portuguese coach has started the England international in the last two league games against Wolves and Leeds.
On the back of his display on Saturday, some Spurs fans are convinced that the Hojbjerg and Winks pairing should be first choice going forward as it enables the side to create a lot more chances.

99 times out of 100, I am Harry Winks’ biggest critic, but today he was exceptional, and I have to give credit where it’s due, top performance from him.

Special praise for Winks. We play more attacking football when he plays instead of Sissoko 👏👏👏#TOTLEE #COYS #THFC

Spurs Web Opinion
Winks has often come under some unfair criticism from sections of the fan base and I was extremely pleased to see him show what he can do on Saturday. The England international offers us a level of control in possession that Sissoko does not and he is also a much more useful asset during attacking transitions than the Frenchman is.
