‘Unique ability’ – Postecoglou explains how Porro and Udogie absences will impact Tottenham

Spurs will be without Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow, but while Ange Postecoglou has admitted Spurs will miss the pair, he has insisted it simply prevents an opportunity for other players.

One area Tottenham have excelled in within Ange Postecoglou‘s system this season has been the adventurous play of their full-backs.

When fit (and not serving suspensions), Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie have been Postecoglou’s preferred options in the full-back role, and the pair have been two of the brightest players in the whole Spurs squad this season.

Porro has one goal and eight assists in 25 appearances this season (Transfermarkt), while Udogie has contributed two goals and three assists in 23 games (Transfermarkt).

Losing one of these players would be huge for Spurs, but Postecoglou will be without both of them for tomorrow’s game against Wolves. Postecoglou told The Athletic the pair will be sidelined for roughly two weeks.

Postecoglou not concerned by absences

Speaking to the press today (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked what kind of impact these absences will have, but he made sure it was clear that the style of play will not change.

He said: “It doesn’t change the way we play but I think I’ve said in the past a player brings their own sort of unique ability to each position. The structure won’t change and the way we set up won’t change but different players bring different attributes.

“Pedro and Destiny have been outstanding for us this year. Pedro has pretty much played every game apart from the first one where he didn’t start. Destiny every time he has been out there for us has been really important.

“They’re both improving but as I said they’re missing now and there will be an opportunity for a couple of other guys to come in and make sure we maintain the levels we’ve set so far.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m sure Emerson Royal and Ben Davies will fill in just fine this weekend and keep us defensively solid, and then hopefully we will see Porro and Udogie back for the Palace game in a couple of weeks.
