‘Unless something falls down’ – Journalist makes claim about Spurs and Nagelsmann

Journalist Dean Jones has said that Julian Nagelsmann remains at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist and that the Lilwhites will continue to work on a deal to sign the German unless they hit a potential roadblock.

Multiple outlets over the last couple of weeks have asserted that Nagelsmann remains Spurs’ top target to replace Antonio Conte in the summer (Football Insider).

Sky Germany revealed last week that although there has been some dialogue between the German’s camp and Spurs, the talks have not been concrete up until this point.

The publication claimed that while the 35-year-old is open to replacing Antonio Conte in N17, he is hesitant to take the job without knowing which director of football he would be working under and without clarity on how much power he would have in transfers.

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook subsequently suggested talkSPORT Breakfast (03/05/23 at 8:55 am) a few days ago that the chances of Nagelsmann taking over at Spurs now appear ‘slim’ since the North Londoners look set to miss out on Champions League qualification.

However, Jones has now suggested that Tottenham have not given up on their pursuit of the former Bayern boss just yet.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Ultimately, Nagelsmann still seems like the guy in pole position for that job.

“So, unless something falls down with Nagelsmann or one of the parties gets cold feet, he will remain the favourite for the job.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite possible that Tottenham have shifted their attention to appointing a replacement for Fabio Paratici after Nagelsmann asked for clarity on which director he would be working under.

So, perhaps we will not see any concrete movement on the managerial front until a new sporting director is in place.
