‘Up in arms’ – Graeme Souness names manager who would anger Spurs fans as next boss

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur fans will be left furious if Daniel Levy decides to Brendan Rodgers as the club’s next head coach.

Tottenham are on the lookout for a permanent manager following the departure of Antonio Conte at the end of March, while his assistant, Cristian Stellini was also given his marching orders in the wake of the 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle United.

Ryan Mason was given the responsibility for the last six matches of the campaign and has seen his side draw against Manchester United and also suffer a frustrating 4-3 defeat away to Liverpool yesterday afternoon.

After the match at Anfield, Souness gave his verdict on Spurs’ search for a new head coach and does not believe that Rodgers would appease the north London faithful.

Rodgers is currently out of work having been sacked by Leicester City in early April after a winless run of seven matches saw the Foxes drop into the Premier League relegation zone.

Souness told Sky Sports’ Premier League television channel (30/4/23): “Brendan Rodgers could have his name attached to a relegation if Leicester go down,”

“Is that the fit for Spurs? Spurs supporters would be up in arms about that.”

The Tottenham Hotspur board needs to be very careful about who they appoint as the next manager, having not bothered to listen to the demands of the fanbase and bring back Mauricio Pochettino.

If Pochettino ends up as expected at Chelsea and the likes of Levy and Cullen have decided not to pick up the phone with the Argentine and instead, appoint someone like Rodgers it would only anger an already furious fanbase.
