Valverde names Spurs star as player he would love Real Madrid to sign – Not Kane or Son

Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has admitted that he would love his compatriot Rodrigo Bentancur to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is fair to say that Tottenham’s capture of Bentancur from Juventus in January was not met with too much excitement from the Spurs fan base, given that the midfielder had struggled to get regular game time under Massimiliano Allegri in Turin this season.

However, the 24-year-old has hardly put a foot wrong since arriving in North London and has forged a formidable partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park.

Bentancur has not only shown excellent defensive awareness but he has also demonstrated an ability to pick out attackers’ runs with precision, with the former Juve man recording two assists in Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Norwich City on Sunday.

Spurs fans will be excited about what is to come from Bentancur next season and Valverde, who has played alongside the 24-year-old for his country, is certainly aware of the midfielder’s talents.

When asked by Uruguayan publication Futbol Portal who he would like Real Madrid to sign, Valverde did not hesitate in naming Bentancur.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bentancur’s success story is perhaps a lesson to Spurs fans on why not to judge signings based on YouTube highlights or the opinion of those who support the club which he is leaving.

The signings that Conte is going to want to make are players who would be the right fit for his system, and those might not necessarily be big-name stars.
