Van der Vaart believes rumoured target would be a great signing for Spurs

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has raved about PSV winger Steven Bergwijn ahead of his proposed move to North London.

The 22-year-old is reportedly in London attempting to seal the move to Tottenham after the Lilywhites made an approach for the Dutch international (Evening Standard).

Van der Vaart, who had an extremely successful two-year spell at White Hart Lane between 2010 and 2012, insisted that his compatriot had all the qualities required to succeed in the Premier League but called for patience to allow Bergwijn time to adapt to the rigours of the English top flight.

The youngster enjoyed an impressive season last campaign, scoring 15 goals in 41 appearances.

This season he hasn’t hit the same eights having scored 5 goals in 26 games for the Dutch club (transfermarkt).

The former Spurs midfielder posted the following message on social media when asked by ourselves Bergwijn’s proposed transfer to Tottenham:

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn certainly seems to have Van der Vaart’s approval despite the former Spurs star’s Ajax loyalties. The 22-year-old does look tailor-made for the Premier League with his pace and power. Given his versatility, the Dutch International will help plug a couple of holes in the squad at once as we are fairly under-resourced in attacking areas.
