Van der Vaart claims Spurs could win PL title if they sign 29-year-old

Rafael Van der Vaart has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur could win the Premier League title if they sign Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea.

Ziyech was linked with a move to Spurs late in the summer, with The Times reporting towards the end of the transfer window that Chelsea had offered the winger to their London rivals.

This claim was also backed up by Relevo, who suggested at the time that Spurs had even entered into negotiations with the Blues for the Morocco international.

Ziyech ended up staying put at Stamford Bridge and has continued to struggle for game time this season, but Spurs have been backed to reignite their interest in the winger when the transfer window reopens in January (Todo Fichajes).

Todo Fichajes added that the former Ajax man is open to the idea of joining the Lilywhites, who are allegedly ready to pay £20m for his services in January.

Van der Vaart believes that a move to Tottenham could bring the best out of the 29-year-old. The former Spurs midfielder Ziggo Sport (as relayed by The Sun): “Hakim Ziyech has to join Tottenham. If Tottenham get Hakim Ziyech, they could win the Premier League. I am serious.”

Van der Vaart remarked that Ziyech does not look happy in West London at the moment and needs more game time than he is getting with Graham Potter’s men.

The Dutchman added: “Of course, he never really has a smiley face, but now you can see from everything that he is not having a good time. “I hope he goes to a club where he can just play and not worry about anything else.

“Ziyech is a boy that always has to play when you get him. When you get players, you buy them not only for their footballing qualities but also for how someone is.”

Multiple reliable publications (including Evening Standard and Football.London) have claimed over recent days that Spurs want a backup for Dejan Kulusevski in January and would be willing to loan out Bryan Gil.

Ziyech would certainly fit the ball for what the North Londoners are looking for. However, if the 29-year-old is looking for regular game time, he is not going to get that at Spurs as he is going to be behind Kulusevski in the pecking order.
