Rafael van der Vaart is targeting a return to the Dutch starting XI after a superb start to life at Spurs.
The midfielder has has failed to complete the full 90 minutes on each of his last 17 appearances for his country, despite being capped 85 times.
Nigel de Jong’s absence from the squad could mean that van der Vaart plays a holding role.
“I can certainly play that position,” said Van der Vaart.
“But I would just love a permanent position with the Oranje. Although you can’t say that the Dutch team at the World Cup did badly without me.”
“I can play in other positions as well,” he added: “I can play on the left, in central midfield and also on the right.”
