Van der Vaart names four ex-Spurs men in his best career XI – and one will surprise you

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur fan favourite Rafael Van Der Vaart decided to hang up his boots earlier this year after sustaining an injury at current club Esbjerg.

Rafa enjoyed a successful career at some huge clubs, including Ajax, Hamburg, Real Madrid, and of course, Tottenham.

He was capped 109 times for his country, The Netherlands, and even played in a World Cup final as captain for his team.

With all these huge clubs, you would think that the career XI from Van Der Vaart would be absolutely insane, but there have been a few raised eyebrows at his choices.

Notably, the man he decided to put up front to partner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rafa played with the likes of Zlatan, Raul, Huntelaar, Higuaín, and plenty of other world class strikers, but Peter Crouch has managed to earn a place in the prestigious list.

Former Spurs men Ledley King, Gareth Bale, and Luka Modric also make the XI.
