Van der Vaart up for sale?

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp may sell Rafael Van der Vaart in the summer because the Dutchman’s lack of mobility places restrictions on the team’s formation.

TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp is ready to pull off a shock transfer deal this summer – and sell Dutch master Rafael van der Vaart.

The 28-year-old has become a Spurs idol since joining from Real Madrid in a surprise move at the start of the season, but there are growing doubts about his long-term future.

The classy star’s style has endeared him to the supporters, particularly during home matches, but it also means Redknapp is restricted to the formation he can play.

Van der Vaart’s lack of mobility, caused by ongoing injury concerns, means he can often be a handicap to the Spurs chief’s planning, forcing Redknapp to play with only one main and goalscoring striker.

Tottenham will not admit the problem in public, but the word has flashed round top European clubs that they might entertain a sale for the attacking midfielder in their next upheaval.

Redknapp is unhappy that his forwards have not produced enough goals this season, and the Dutchman’s in-and-out appearances and role in the Spurs set-up have caused disruption.

The Tottenham boss is looking everywhere for new forwards but might be able to field only one at a time in order to accommodate Van der Vaart.

People Sport understands that if the right bid comes in for the wandering Dutchman then he could leave White Hart Lane – as long as Redknapp knows who he can bring in to replace him.
