VDV will ‘probably’ be at Spurs next season

German newspapers just love covering their pages with news on Rafael van der Vaart. Not a week goes by when the Tottenham midfielder is linked with a return to Hamburg.

The good news is that Rafa has been quoted as saying that he will “probably” still be at the Lane next season. Which is more than we can say about the wantaway Luka Modric.

Rafa pulls no punches about how much he enjoyed his time in Germany and his easy-on-the-eye wife Sylvie is a big celeb in the country.

“It’s amazing how my name has been mentioned in recent days,” he told German newspaper Bild. “I can only say that these stories are rumours – I’ll probably still be at Tottenham next season.”

“It is gratifying to see that people remember my spell at Hamburg in a positive way,” he added. “Who knows, maybe I’ll work there again one day in the future.”

  1. I would love to say i am pleased but sadly that's not the case. He is a fine player but he causes a conundrum when he plays has a second striker if he doesn't score his contribution is limited and the striker he plays instead of loses his sharpness. If and i hope it is an if Defoe leaves then the new striker will suffer the same frustration has Defoe has. We have Siggy Hudds Parker Van Livermore Jenas Bentley and the youngsters all chasing the same spot. What we don't need is another big name striker to sit and watch Van draw blanks he is a midfielder who scores goals not a striker and he wont sit and watch or come of early. But i can see why some of my fellow fans like him if i had to dive in a swollen river and save one of these two players Defoe would be the one his goals won more games. if both stay i would not complain.

  2. I hope VDV stays with us. He is pure class and we can never have enought of that. I accept that he has limitations as far as pace is concerned, but then again so did Hoddle……VDV can see and make passes that others cant, he is a regular scorer and never gives less than 100%.

Defoe just isnt in the same league, he is, in my opinion the kind of guy to come off the bench with 20 or so mins to go to try and grab a goal.

So i hope he stays because if he doesnt we are going to miss him…..the same as we will miss Modders when he goes, those that think otherwise are deluding themselves

  3. Van Der Vaart must stay at Spurs. He is a quality player with Champions League, World Cup and EUropean Championship experience. Just look at his goals in the recent Euros – a quality act.

If we lose Van Der Vaart it would be a massive blow – it is hard to attract top quality players – remember Van Der Vaart signed after we secured Champions League qualification. Now we do not have Champions League, it would be hard to buy players of his calibre. Do NOT sell Van Der Vaart!
