Vertonghen set to miss out along with Lo Celso; Tanganga in squad

Tottenham Hotspur are set to be without the services of Jan Vertonghen for today’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

The Belgian defender’s shirt was missing from the photos which the Spurs official Twitter account posted ahead of the match at the new stadium.

Instead, young academy defender Japhet Tanganga’s jersey could be seen hanging up inside the luxurious home dressing room.

The 20-year-old impressed during the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East and was equally impressive in the Audi Cup. He now gets his reward with his inclusion in Mauricio Pochettino’s ‘travelling’ squad after he was left out of the Under 23’s match earlier today against Liverpool.

New signing Giovani Lo Celso’s shirt was also nowhere to be seen.

Hopefully Vertonghen’s omission is nothing too serious and he is back and fit for next weekend’s tough trip to current Premier League champions Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side started their top flight campaign with a 5-0 demolition of West Ham United earlier today.
