Vertonghen to Spurs talks in final stage

Ajax has publically confirmed that talks between the Dutch club and Tottenham over a possible transfer for Jan Vertonghen are ongoing.

The Belgian defender is in the last year of his contract and Ajax are holding out for as much money as possible. There are also rumours that Vertonghen is due a percentage of the transfer fee, which Ajax refuse to partake in – this is apparently holding up any deal being finalised.

Vertonghen has already stated of his desire to move to White Hart Lane and fans are becoming frustrated that the deal is taking so long to tie up. Following the release of Ryan Nelson and doubts over Ledley King’s fitness, we are desperate to bring in another central defender.

“We all hoped for a rapid agreement between Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax and Spurs and Jan Vertonghen,” Ajax financial director Jeroen Slop told De Telegraaf.

“It’s in its final stage, but in our opinion there is still no concrete news.”

“Jan Vertonghen has always stood by Ajax, and he expects that the club does the same,” The player’s agent Mustapha Nakhli also told De Telegraaf.

Let’s hope it’s not another case of a “nearly” transfer for Spurs.
