‘Very confident’ – Danjuma reacts to Spurs defeat after he scored vs Bournemouth

Arnaut Danjuma has insisted that Tottenham were right to throw the kitchen sink at Bournemouth towards the end of the game, even though they paid for it in the end.

Danjuma has not had much game time since joining Spurs on loan but Cristian Stellini did turn to the Dutchman on Saturday, bringing him on just before the hour mark with the home side 2-1 down.

The 25-year-old looked quite threatening and scored the equaliser in the 88th minute, with his drilled left-footed effort taking a deflection and sailing into the bottom corner.

However, as the home side were throwing bodies forward in search of a winner, they were left exposed at the back, with Dango Ouattara netting the match-winner in the final moments of stoppage time to hand the Cherries all three points.

Despite the way the result turned out, Danjuma insisted that he would have been more disappointed if his side had not gone all out for the winner in the final few minutes of the game.

The winger told SpursPlay: “Yeah, the primary feelings we have are of disappointment but I think towards the end of the game we’ve done well.

“We try to win the game and if you are Spurs, you should always try to win.

“Inevitably you will leave some space in behind for Bournemouth to counter but I think I would be more disappointed if we didn’t try to go for the win.

“We’re obviously devastated with the result but nevertheless, I am standing here very confident in my teammates, in the fans and the staff.

“We have seven games left and it all to play for so as long as we focus on the next games, get our conviction back, get our confidence back, there will be nothing to worry about.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think anyone is critical of the fact that we threw bodies forward at the end in search of a match-winner.

The problem, once again, was our lack of control for large parts of the game.

We had a real opportunity to put our foot down and dominate the game when we took an early lead but instead, opted to cede possession and defend our lead, which came back to bite us yet again.
