‘Very difficult’ – Ledley King on Spurs plans during January transfer window

Ledley King has said that it could prove quite difficult for Tottenham to bring players in during the January transfer window.

Since Antonio Conte’s arrival at Spurs at the start of the month, there has been loads of speculation regarding the North London club’s transfer targets in January. Some sources have claimed that the Italian has been promised a huge war chest in January.

Following Spurs’ embarrassing 2-1 loss to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, Conte insisted that he now realises how far Tottenham are from the best sides in the Premier League and insisted he was no magician.

Some saw this as a warning to the Spurs hierarchy from the 52-year-old that he would walk away if he is not given sufficient tools to compete.

However, King believes the Tottenham head coach will be focused on getting the best out of his current squad for the time being and he expects the club to splash the cash next summer instead.

The legendary centre-back told Tribal Football: “I think at the moment to just get the best out of this group of players that he has, identify who has the right character, who is up for the fight, who has the discipline and I think to work with this group of players could take the team up the table.

“I’m sure they will be looking at potential targets in January [but] as you say, it’s very difficult to bring players in.

“But you know they will probably be looking at seeing if there are one or two players that they can bring in, and of course, in the summer, you will probably expect a lot of changes, players coming and going.

“At the moment, the manager will just be focused on working with this group and getting the best out of the players he has.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham generally tend not to do much business in January. However, it is possible that they would change the way they operate now that Paraitici is in charge and Conte has just been hired. I still expect us to make a maximum of two signings in January. The majority of the rebuild will likely be done next summer.
