‘Very emotional’ – Robbie Keane reveals what Levy told him about Conte

Robbie Keane has said that a no-nonsense character like Antonio Conte is exactly what Tottenham need and shared what Daniel Levy told him about the Italian ahead of Saturday’s match against Brighton.

In just a little over three months at the helm at Tottenham, Conte has seemingly already reshaped the team in his own image, with the players looking much hungrier than they did under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Not only has the Italian got the best out of some players who were struggling under previous regimes but he also looks to be instilling a winning mentality into the squad.

That was certainly in evidence during Tottenham’s dramatic comeback against Leicester last month, with the Spurs players fighting to get the ball back rather than celebrating after Steven Bergwijn’s equaliser.

Conte did not mince his words in his press conference last week, insisting that the club had made some mistakes in the past, which is why they had to let go of four first-team players in the January transfer window (Football.London).

Keane, who was at the stadium as part of his punditry duty of ITV revealed that Levy told him that the Italian wants to do things his own way and has a lot of respect inside the club.

The former Spurs striker told ITV 4 (on 6/2/22 at 22:00): “You see when you have big characters like that (on selling Alli), the manager doesn’t care. It’s his way and his own way.

“If people don’t respect that, then he will get rid of them. He can do that because of the character that he is. Also because he is respected in the game and respected by all the players in what he has won in the game.

“So, he’s not going to take fools lightly. He tells the players like it is. If you don’t like it, then you can go. I think, for a big club like this, Tottenham, they need someone like this. He is the biggest character in the training ground.

“I was speaking to Daniel Levy just before we came on air and he said that ‘he is one of the best that he has worked with. He said that he is very passionate. Very emotional’ But he said, ‘As a person, he’s so respected from the staff and inside the club’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that the Spurs hierarchy sanctioned the sale of Dele and loan moves for two big-money signings in Lo Celso and Ndombele, suggests that they fully trust Conte to steer the ship.

So whether or not we can get Conte’s first-choice targets during the summer, it seems clear that we will not be signing anyone without the Italian’s full approval.
