‘Very good pals’ – Pundit expects Levy to use friendship with agent this summer

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has claimed that Gareth Bale has a realistic chance of returning to Tottenham Hotspur next season.

The 31-year-old completed a return to North London last summer when he season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

Despite the excitement and hype surrounding the return of the fan favourite, Bale started the season injured and was not used on a consistent basis by former boss Jose Mourinho with a lot of his action in the Premier League coming off the bench (transfermarkt).

Palmer believes that Daniel Levy’s relationship with Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett could play into Tottenham’s hands and if the Welshman does return, it could explain the reason for Jose Mourinho’s departure.

Bale came back into favour under interim head coach Ryan Mason and helped to fire Tottenham into the Europa Conference League with two-late goals on the final day of the season at Leicester City which also ensured that they finished above Arsenal.

He told Football FanCast: “I think Levy wants to keep Bale – he’s very good pals with Jonathan Barnett, who’s Bale’s agent and it’s very clear he wants to keep him.

“He wasn’t getting game-time under Mourinho. It would not surprise me to see Bale there next season, and if that’s the case, that’s why Mourinho got the sack.”

The left-footer has twelve months left to run on his contract in the Spanish capital and it remains to be seen whether he has a future there following Zinedine Zidane’s departure, or whether they wish to get him off their wage bill.
