‘Very happy to be here’ – Eriksen on Brentford future after rumours of Spurs return surface

Christian Eriksen has admitted that he is very happy at Brentford having made an impressive start to his career with the Bees.

Eriksen joined the west London outfit during January having signed a six-month contract until the end of the season.

Earlier this week, the Dane’s performances were said to have attracted interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with his former club reported to be paying the closest attention to his situation (iNews).

Eriksen has played a pivotal role in helping to lift Brentford 11 points clear of the drop zone with a goalscoring performance in the convincing 4-1 victory at Chelsea last weekend.

The 30-year-old admits he has settled well within Thomas Frank’s side following an emotional return to the game after suffering a cardiac arrest while on international duty for Denmark at Euro 2020 last summer.

He told the Evening Standard: “Everything has been pretty positive, only the coronavirus time when I didn’t play that game at Leicester,”

“But after it has been very heart-warming to be here. The welcome from the fans, players and staff, really everyone, has been very happy for me. I am very happy to be here.

“To win 4-1 at Stamford Bridge as a team is a massive statement and it will give the whole club a lot of confidence against the top teams.

“All the last few weeks and months have been very emotional and very pleasing obviously for me to be back playing and to score my first goal at Stamford Bridge.”

Eriksen has proven in his performances this season since returning to action that he is more than capable of still being a top player. His creative spark is something that Spurs have missed since his departure, with a heavy reliance instead on Harry Kane to drop deep and thread balls behind the opposition defence.

With Fabio Paratici’s tendency to enjoy a free transfer, it would be a no-brainer to bring Eriksen back to north London this summer.
