‘Very hard and sad’ – Spurs player shares his World Cup heartbreak

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has taken to Instagram to express his disappointment at missing the World Cup through injury.

The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury during Villarreal’s La Liga defeat away at Athletic Bilbao on October 30th and scans confirmed that the midfielder had suffered a hamstring tear (AS).

Lo Celso had tried to give himself every possible chance of being available for the tournament in Qatar, but eventually had to undergo surgery on the injury in Finland earlier this week and will instead have to make do with watching Argentina from the comfort of his own home (Todo Notícias).

The 41-cap Argentine was left out of Antonio Conte’s plans at Tottenham during the summer and instead of being involved in the club’s pre-season plans, was one of a handful of players who had to train away from the first-team squad.

Having joined Villarreal on a second loan spell this summer, Lo Celso admitted on Instagram that the days following the injury have been ‘very hard and sad’ as he comes to terms with not being part of Lionel Scaloni’s plans.

Lo Celso’s post was translated by the well-respected Twitter account, All About Argentina.

This also comes as a blow to Tottenham who would have hoped Lo Celso could have impressed during the tournament to help drive up his valuation ahead of next summer’s transfer window, having failed to make an impact during his time in north London.
