‘Very hard-working guy’ – Mourinho praises substitute following 4-1 victory

Jose Mourinho has praised Carlos Vinicius for his attitude and work ethic after the Brazilian came off the bench and got himself on the scoresheet in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Wolfsberger yesterday evening.

With Harry Kane not making the trip to Budapest, Mourinho decided to start with a front four of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Gareth Bale and Dele Alli.

Son, Moura and Bale all found the back of the net in the first half to put Tottenham in a commanding position at half-time and Mourinho decided to take the South Korean off at the interval and introduce Vinicius.

The on-loan Benfica man has found opportunities hard to come by this season, with most of his minutes coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.

However, the 25-year-old once again got on the scoresheet, netting his seventh of the season with his late goal to put Mourinho’s men in the driving seat ahead of the return leg next week.

Speaking about Vinicius display, Mourinho said in his post-match press conference (via Football.London): “Vinicius is a very hard-working guy, always ready to help the team when we need.

“So it was always fair for Vinicius to have 45 minutes and to score his goal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though Vinicius has a decent goal per minutes ration this season, it is clear that Mourinho is not quite convinced that he is the answer in terms of a permanent back up to Harry Kane. So, I do not expect the club to make his loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

However, the striker’s attitude cannot be faulted as he always tries his hardest and puts a shift in. I would expect him to start the second leg since we seem to already have one foot in the round of 16.
