‘Very impressed’ – Ledley King backs Spurs man to become ‘top player’ in the future

Ledley King admits he has been impressed by the performances of Cristian Romero and backs the Tottenham defender to become a ‘top player’ in the future.

Romero, who arrived on loan from Atalanta last summer, has emerged as one of Spurs’ key players in the three-man defence under Antonio Conte.

After missing a portion of the campaign with a hamstring injury, the 23-year-old has returned to feature in each of the club’s last 10 Premier League games since February (Transfermarkt).

His latest display in the 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle was one of his best in a Spurs shirt, with Romero looking confident in handling the tricky Allan Saint-Maximin from the first minute.

And Romero has made a good impression on former Spurs centre-back King so far, who believes the Argentina international can go very far if he continues this trajectory.

He said on the Mennie Talks podcast: “I’ve been very impressed with Romero. I think he’s going to be a top, top player. In his first season, he’s been excellent.”

Romero’s recent performances have been exactly what has been expected of him since arriving at the club. He has all the tools to be the best central defender in the world and he is already staking his claim to be one of the best, despite being at such a young age.
