‘Very impressive’ – Some Spurs fans believe youngster is set for a big season ahead

Some Tottenham fans have been left impressed with what they have seen of Dennis Cirkin during pre-season and believe that the youngster could play an important part for the first-team next season.

The 18-year-old featured in all Tottenham’s pre-season season friendlies and has certainly not looked out of place.

The Spurs academy graduate has looked defensively shrewd, while also displaying tremendous composure on the ball.

However, the teenager was at fault for Watford’s second goal in their 2-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s men on Saturday after he hauled down Tom Dele-Bashiru inside the box and gave away a spot-kick, which was dispatched by Andre Gray.

Reports indicate that Jose Mourinho rates Cirkin highly and is ready to use the youngster and Ryan Sessegnon as Ben Davies’ understudies next season, instead of entering the market for a new left-back (Football Insider).

While a few fans were concerned that Cirkin giving the penalty away at Vicarage Road was a sign that he might not be ready, many believed that the youngster was ready to be Davies’ main back up.

Spurs Web Opinion

Cirkin has shown plenty of promising signs during pre-season games but it is hard to read too much into it given the standard of the opposition. Against Watford, he showed the nativity one would expect of an 18-year-old by attempting that challenge from behind but I am sure it is something he will learn from.

The most exciting thing about Cirkin is that he seems tailor-made to play as a left-sided centre-back in a back three, rather than a marauding wing-back, which makes him an ideal fit for our system. Like Tanganga, the 18-year-old also seems to enjoy the art of defending and it is clear to see why Jose like him.
