‘Very proud’ – Spurs star reacts to reaching 300 game milestone for the club

Eric Dier has admitted his pride at reaching 300 Premier League appearances for Tottenham.

Dier was a big part of the Mauricio Pochettino revolution at Tottenham, operating as a defensive midfielder for a substantial proportion of his time under the Argentine.

However, after his move to centre-back, the 27-year-old has divided opinion among the Spurs fan base. He came in for plenty of criticism for some of his errors last season and he ended up losing his place in the England squad.

Dier has had a massive resurgence this season and has been the mainstay of the Spurs backline. The centre-back has gone up another notch after the arrival of Antonio Conte, helping the Lilywhites keep four clean sheets in their seven games under the Italian.

Conte has had high words of praise for the former Sporting Lisbon man, insisting that he can become one of the best central defenders in the world.

Dier has now taken to social media to express his delight at making his 300th league appearance for the Lilywhites, although he admitted that it was not the result he hoped for at St Mary’s.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have always believed Dier possessed the attributes to become a top central defender and I am glad to see the 27-year-old finally getting the credit he deserves.

I thought some of the criticism that was levelled at him last season was unfair, particularly considering how solid he was alongside Alderweireld in the first half of last campaign.
