Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is continuing to earn rave reviews from pundits following the form he has shown since arriving at Tottenham, with Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva being the latest to sing the praises of the midfielder after his performance in the North London derby.
Hojbjerg put in another fine display at the heart of Tottenham’s midfield in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, just as he has since the start of the season.
The Dane sat in front of the back four and denied Arsenal’s midfielders and forwards any space or time on the ball in the final third.
He once again displayed the natural ability he possesses to read the game and position himself correctly to make vital interceptions.
Silva certainly knows the demands of being a defensive midfielder in the Premier League, having performed the role admirably for many years for Tottenham’s North London rivals and he admitted that Hojbjerg was invaluable to the current Tottenham side.
The Brazilian said on his Invisible Wall podcast: “They (Tottenham) are a solid team at the back.
“Hojbjerg is doing a great job, he is very useful for the team. Stopping the game, controlling it, plays it back, makes fouls – it is how Mourinho plays. He likes this type of game.
“Big guys at the back and in the midfield and they are very strong. But then in attack, they are so fast with Harry Kane and Son.
“With Arsenal, there is something missing – creativity. Against the counter, they could not defend properly. It is a big problem.”
