Paul Robinson believes that Thomas Meunier would be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham amidst rumours that the club are interested in the Paris Saint-Germain player.
Meunier’s contract with PSG runs out in the summer and the experienced defender has been linked with a move to the Champions League finalists.
Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) reported last Friday that the PSG right-back was likely to be Tottenham bound and claimed that 28-year-old had ‘almost everything done’ with the North Londoners, while ESPN suggested that Mourinho had personally called the Belgian international to convince him to come to Spurs.
It is fair to say that some Spurs fans have not reacted too enthusiastically to the rumours of the club’s move for Meunier.
However, Robinson is adamant that the experienced defender is exactly the sort of player Tottenham need to improve their backline.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Spurs goalkeeper said: “Serge Aurier has had an indifferent season. He has been exposed at times and been left wanting.
“Meunier has been linked with Spurs for a while now and I think he is a player that Jose admires.
“It will be a position that they are looking at as well. They have leaked too many goals. A lot of goals have come down that right-hand side.
“Tanganga has been utilised there a lot. They will certainly be looking at reinforcements if not a replacement and I think Thomas Meunier would be a very, very good option.”

I believe that Max Aarons is likely to be our first-choice since he’s homegrown and his value is only going to increase in the coming seasons. However, given our financial predicament, we will have to prioritise some positions over others. I get the feeling that Jose has decided to settle for Meunier on a free-transfer instead and spend our transfer kitty on other positions.
