Vice-president reveals agent of Spurs-linked forward was recently in England

The agent of Julian Alvarez has recently travelled to England amid reports linking him with a move to both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

River Plate vice-president Jorge Brito revealed during an interview with Ole that the striker’s representative has returned from his trip and is intent on getting the 21-year-old to sign a new deal with the Argentinean outfit.

Calciomercato reported last month that the forward’s performances for River Plate had attracted attention from a number of European clubs including Tottenham, Aston Villa, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund with a €25million (£23million) fee mooted.

The Argentina international has been in impressive form at club level this season, having scored 15 goals in 16 appearances in the top flight which included four against Patronato last week.

Brito wants Alvarez, who is currently under contract until the end of 2022 to extend his stay with River.

He said: “The objective, now his representative has returned from England, is to talk to reach a good agreement and that Julian stays.

“I can speak for River. We believe he is young, he has grown up a lot, the world is talking about him and there is a World Cup next year. That is a description of reality.

“We look to sell a player when he has reached his ceiling – a moment that is good for him and the club. And we believe Julian still has not arrived at his (ceiling).

“Julian has no limits. We have not seen such a player in Argentina for a long time.”

Alvarez is prolific in his domestic league and the step up to the Premier League along with adapting a new country and lifestyle would be another challenge for the youngster. If Tottenham want to guarantee a forward who can help Harry Kane with the goalscoring burden, they should look no further than Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic.
