Video: Adrian Durham claims manager linked to Spurs would be taking a backwards step

talkSPORT radio presenter Adrian Durham has claimed that he does not believe that Tottenham Hotspur are above Gareth Southgate.

The England boss has been linked with the vacant managerial position in North London following Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho with the club said to be considering the 50-year-old along with Ralf Rangnik and Roberto Martinez after their top target Julian Nagelsmann was confirmed as taking over at Bayern Munich at the end of the season (Telegraph).

Despite his relatively successful spell in charge of England, Southgate has only managed Middlesbrough at club level, having only managed to win 45 matches in 151 outings in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Durham also claimed that Ajax’s Erik ten Hag is above the standard of Tottenham and would not want to take a backward of sidewards step in moving to North London.

The 51-year-old has won an Eredivisie title and two KNVB Cups since taking charge of the Amsterdam outfit in 2017, who are also on course to win the Eredivisie this season, having opened up a 12-point lead over rivals PSV (transfermarkt).
