Toby Alderweireld has responded to whether the speculation over Harry Kane’s future has proven to be a distraction to the rest of the team.
The Belgian was named in the starting eleven for yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa which has all but ended their hopes of Europa League football next season with West Ham United having beaten West Brom 3-1 at the Hawthorns.
Sky Sports reported on Monday evening that Kane has reiterated his desire to leave Tottenham this summer with the striker failing to add to his tally against Dean Smith’s side.
Alderweireld denied that the speculation is affecting the squad and insisted that the players prepared themselves in the best way possible for the match and it is for others to decide about what lies in wait for the England captain.
The Evening Standard reported after the final whistle that it felt as if Kane was saying goodbye to the Spurs fans when he applauded those in attendance.
🗣 "There's nothing we can say about that, nothing we can know. It's for all the people to decide."
