Tottenham Hotspur rounded off the season by securing their place in next season’s Europa League.
Jose Mourinho’s side travelled to Selhurst Park on the final day of the Premier League campaign needing to finish in sixth place to secure European qualification.
A impressive recent run of form had put Spurs into contention, but it was of their hands going into the match with supporters hoping that rivals Chelsea could do them a favour by beating sixth-place Wolves.
With Wolves 2-0 down at half time and Harry Kane having given Spurs a 1-0 lead against Crystal Palace, things were looking good for Mourinho’s men.
However, a 53rd minute Jeffrey Schlupp equaliser set up for a nervy finish to the game. Former Spur, Andros Townsend who lined up in the Palace side has revealed what Jose Mourinho was telling his players with the score level at 1-1.
Townsend claimed in an interview with talkSPORT that the Portuguese head coach was informing his players that they only needed a point from the match and spent the last ten minutes taking the ball into the corner to waste time.
“Spurs needed a point to finish 6th & you could tell they knew.”
“Jose was getting messages onto the pitch saying they only needed a draw.”

Have something to tell us about this article?
I think it seemed pretty obvious that Jose was happy just to see out the game, but I have to say it bothers me greatly that Spurs are allowing danger by enabling the opposition to have to much possession. I seriously hope this is not going to become the norm going forward, I still believe attacking possession football is the best way to win games.
