Video: Andy Townsend makes prediction about Tottenham’s season

Former Aston Villa and Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend has predicted that new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will prioritise the FA Cup this season as Spurs go in search of their first piece of silverware for the first time in over a decade.

Townsend believes that unlike his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, Mourinho will be keen on winning some silverware rather than worrying only about a top four finish.

He claimed that the 56-year-old could use the FA Cup as the springboard this season to get the club a taste of winning trophies.

Spurs will face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.

Here’s what Townsend said to BBC 5 Live Sport:

While the FA Cup is an obvious trophy for Mourinho to target, I believe he will also be quietly confident of doing well in the Champions League. There is no doubt that the team now has a much better chance in the competition that it did under Pochettino as Mourinho is a master at setting up his teams to get results in one-off European ties.
