Video: Arsenal Fan TV’s Claude sends apology to Son and Spurs for alleged racist remark

AFTV’s Claude has issued an apology after he was seen making an alleged racist slur against Heung-min Son during Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

During AFTV’s live watch-along of the North London Derby, Claude could be heard saying “DVDs coming off” as Son was being substituted.

AFTV chief Robbie Lyle confirmed earlier today that Claude would no longer be part of the channel for an indefinite period.

Claude has now made a video apologising for the hurt that his remarks caused. However, he insisted that his comments were misinterpreted and that he had not intended to racially stereotype Son.

Instead, he maintained the earlier explanation that the DVD remark had instead been a joke about Spurs releasing a highlights DVD of the North London Derby win.

I would have not have as much issue with this if Claude and Robbie had just owned up to their mistake and admitted that something inappropriate was said amidst the heat of the derby. That would have not have made Claude’s comments acceptable but one could have at least understood and forgiven. What Robbie and Claude have tried to do here is cover it up until they got so much push back that they could not continue. Claude here still insinuates that he was referring to Spurs making DVDs and it was mere coincidence that he happened to say it as Son was being withdrawn.
