Merson played under Wenger and George Graham at Arsenal before being managed by Redknapp at Portsmouth towards the end of his career.
The former midfielder suggested that Redknapp always had limited resources to work with in comparison to someone like Wenger, who had superstars across his team.
The 52-year-old claimed that the former Spurs boss did not get the credit he deserved and insisted that referring to him as a ‘wheeler-dealer’ was disrespectful.

Spurs Web Opinion
I love Harry Redknapp and I believe the job he did at Spurs is quite underrated, even by many Spurs fans. However, to suggest that Harry was a tactical genius is laughable. He was an excellent man-manager and knew how to motivate different types of individuals. He allowed the players to play with a lot of freedom without burdening them with too much information. Luckily, we had the likes of Modric, Van der Vaart and Bale who needed exactly that – freedom to express themselves and a manager who would build up their confidence.
