After becoming England’s all-time leading goalscorer with his strike against Italy, Harry Kane admitted that he did not even dream about the achievement while growing up.
Kane stepped up to convert from the penalty spot to double England’s lead just before half-time after Giovanni Di Lorenzo was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty spot.
The goal was his 54th for the Three Lions, with the striker overtaking Wayne Rooney’s tally to become the nation’s all-time highest goalscorer.
Speaking following England’s 2-1 win, an emotional Kane admitted that he was extremely proud of the achievement, and thanked his teammates, the staff and his family back home after writing his name into the history books.

The striker also took to social media to describe seeing his penalty hit the back of the net as a ‘magical moment’.

The Three Lions skipper also delivered a speech in the dressing room after the final whistle, thanking the players for helping him clinch the record.

It is safe to say that this moment would rank up there among the best nights of his career so far.
Despite all the flak he gets for his lack of trophies, there is no doubt that he has written his name into the history books as one of the greatest strikers of all time.
