Darren Bent has highlighted the magnitude of Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League loss to Dinamo Zagreb, claiming it is the biggest surprise in the club’s European history.
Spurs threw away a 2-0 goal lead from the first leg in North London after a hat-trick from Mislav Orsic proved to be enough for the Croatian’s to end Tottenham’s hopes of winning the trophy and securing a route back into the Champions League.
Bent believes that given Tottenham’s stature as a club, they should not have been in the position to lose the tie.
The former forward felt that after the first leg, Tottenham had already done enough to book their place in the last eight of the competition but instead have suffered one of their darkest nights in Europe.
“It was quite sad, last night.” 😢
“They can’t lose that tie. It’s arguably the biggest shock in their European history.”
