Video: Christian Eriksen opens up on ‘extraordinary’ gesture following his cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen has admitted that he left blown away by the response from players and fans after he suffered a cardiac arrest during the European Championships last year.

Eriksen has not played competitively since the harrowing incident against Finland after which he was rushed to a hospital and later had an ICD device fitted to his heart.

The Dane reached an agreement with Inter Milan to terminate his contract last month and is currently training at Swiss club Chiasso.

According to reports, the former Tottenham man is hoping to be training with a top-flight club this month, with clubs from England, Netherlands and Denmark showing interest in snapping him up as a free agent.

The former Spurs man has now given a television interview back in Denmark, thanking those who sent him flowers and wished him the best during his recovery.

The 29-year-old also admitted in the same interview that he is desperate to be involved in the Denmark squad for the Qatar World Cup.

He added: “My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar.

“I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along. It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back. I’m sure I can because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape.

“My dream is to rejoin the national team and play at Parken again and prove that it was a one-timer and that it won’t happen again,” Eriksen added. “I want to prove I’ve moved on and that I can play [for] the national team again. Again, it’s up to the manager to assess my level. But my heart is not an obstacle.”

Some of the memories that Eriksen gave us will be edged in the memories of Spurs fans for a long time. No matter what happens, the Dane will always be a legend at the club.

Even if Spurs do not plan on re-signing him, it would be great to see the club invite him back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a guest over the coming weeks.
