Danny Rose has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino instructed him not to kick Lionel Messi ahead of a meeting between the pair.
Tottenham faced Barcelona in a Group B Champions League fixture in December 2018 at the Nou Camp which saw the North Londoners needed to match or better Inter Milan’s result at home to PSV Eindhoven to keep their European hopes alive.
Rose admitted in an Instagram live interview with Don E Music that his manager urged him not to make Messi angry which resulted in the left-back being unable to sleep during his afternoon nap ritual prior to an evening match.
Messi ended up starting the match from the bench and came on during the second half but was unable to guide his side to victory after Lucas Moura’s equaliser five minutes from time saw Spurs book their place in the knockout stages.
Danny Rose on facing Messi:
“Before the game Poch said no matter what you do, do not kick Messi, do not make him angry.”
“I laid in my bed in the afternoon and thought what the f*ck am I gonna do?”
“And then Harry Kane said im going to clamp it so he takes it out you!” ? pic.twitter.com/Rs4rtlLexB
