Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that he attempted to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.
Moyes took over as manager from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in 2013 and Scot admitted that the club made an approach for Bale while he was still at Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Red Devils boss, who is now in charge at West Ham United divulged that he made an offer for the Welshman which was a higher amount than Real Madrid had offered.
Moyes believes that United were very close to landing the former Southampton man and even had arranged a helicopter arranged to pick him up to take him to their training ground but had to admit defeat in the end with Bale having his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
?"We had agreed to try and take him to United and we were very close, I tried to make him my first signing, I could not talk him out of going to Madrid, we even had a helicopter!
