Video: Dean Saunders makes bizarre Toby Alderweireld claim

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from the club this summer with Serie A side AS Roma said to be keen on his signature (Football Italia).

The 30-year-old has a release clause of £25 million in his contract that can be activated until the 26th of July (The Guardian).

However, recent reports indicate that the Belgian international could end up staying beyond this summer (Sport360).

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa midfielder, Dean Saunders has now made a bizarre claim about the Spurs defender.

The 55-year-old urged Leicester City to sign Alderweireld as the replacement for Harry Maguire who is said to be close to an £80 million move to Manchester United (The Independent).

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Wales international suggested initially that United should have gone for Alderweireld over Maguire due to his cut-price valuation.

He then insisted that Leicester should spend a portion of the fee they will receive for the England international to snap up the Belgian.

A move to Leicester City will make little sense for the 30-year-old as not only will it represent a step-down but he likely will have to take a wage cut as well. We believe the club should hold on to Alderweireld for at least one more season and concentrate instead on investing into other areas of the squad.
