Everton manager Marco Silva has given his support to Heung-min Son following the incident which left Andre Gomes with an horrific injury.
Gomes was left in a crumpled heap on the floor after a foul by Son saw the midfielder appear to catch his foot in the turf in the middle of a challenge by Serge Aurier.
The South Korean was left visibly shaken by the significance of Gomes’ injury which saw the Spurs player shown a red card by Martin Atkinson while Gomes was then carried off the field and straight into an ambulance.
Atkinson originally handed the Son a yellow card but upgraded his decision to a red card after seeing the extent of the damage to Gomes without consulting the help of VAR.
After the match, Silva insisted that he believed a player with Son’s character did not have any intention to cause injury to the former Barcelona midfielder.
