Video: Ex-Spurs star Erik Lamela nets in thrilling game against Real Madrid

Former Tottenham winger Erik Lamela scored for Sevilla in their 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid on Sunday night.

Lamela, who joined the Spanish side permanently from Spurs in January, netted his first goal for the club since October having been absent for a large chunk of the campaign with a shoulder injury (Transfermarkt).

After some good work from Jesus Corona, the ball came to the Argentine in the penalty area who tapped into an empty Real Madrid net to hand his side a 2-0 lead against the Champions League semi-finalists.

But Lamela’s tally would not be enough for Los Rojiblancos to secure three important points, as they eventually lost the match 3-2 after Real rallied back in the second half.

Rodrygo gave the away side a lifeline five minutes after the restart, before Nacho Fernandez levelled the scoring with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Sevilla were then dealt a big blow when Karim Benzema fired in the winner in stoppage time to notch his 25th goal of the season and extend Real’s lead atop LaLiga.

It seemed that Lamela padded Sevilla’s lead in the first half and put them in a good position to win against Real, but it wasn’t to be in the end.

He has had another tough season in his career having missed a large portion of games through injury, but it is nice to see him on the score sheet in one of his first games back in action.
