Video: Exclusive – Former Spurs defender admits he cried after being sold

Michael Dawson has admitted that he was reduced to tears when he left the Tottenham Hotspur training ground for the last time.

The stalwart made the move to Hull City in August 2014 for £6million, bringing an end to his time in North London where he had made 324 appearances (transfermarkt) in a nine-year spell.

In an exclusive interview with SpursWeb, Dawson recalled his time under Andre Villas-Boas where he struggled for game time for a period of around three months, which he described as the most difficult time of his professional career.

The central defender was sold not long after Mauricio Pochettino had taken over from Villas-Boas and believed at the time that he had to seek regular first-team football elsewhere since he was approaching the age of 30 and was concerned for how the rest of his career could pan out.

Dawson was and is still adored by the Tottenham faithful, to leave after such a long time at the club would have been very difficult but it is understandable that he had to put his career first.
